December 8th the conscious and caring citizens of Oklahoma will go to the urns to vote for an extension of Maps 3 in which tax payers, voluntarily choose to continue paying 1 cent on everything they purchase to embellish and make this city more attractive, functional and more livable.
The taxes raised with MAPS 3 will go to improve the security in the City, as a portion of the raised funds will be allocated for law enforcement. Curiously, the Police Union or Fraternal Order of the Police and the Firemen Union are not supporting Maps 3.
This thuggish attitude assumed by the Oklahoma City Police Union or “Fraternal order of Police” should not surprise anybo- MAPS 3: A WIN WIN SITUATION FOR EVERYBODY! dy, as they, on regular basis have shown they work for their own selfish interests, instead of what is best for the citizens of this city; proof of this is the fact that this union has, constantly, pressured the DA and the Police Departments to reinstate policemen who have been suspended for committing immoral acts and, even serious crimes.
Maps is a !Win Win! situation for everybody, as the taxes raised will be spent in constructing a more functional Convention Center, trail paths, a Seniors Aquatic Recreation Center, new schools, and improvements on the Oklahoma River . A modern system of rail transportation and a beautiful ecological Central Park, where Oklahomans from every corner of the city can converge to enjoy planned activities all year round.
After visiting Discovery Green Park in Houston, a park where Houstonians of all ages go downtown to socialize and for free entertainment, and after seeing the development that this ecological project has brought for the economy and tourism in that city, I have only to say that MAPS 3 is good for the city, the state and everybody. Oklahoma City has been designated by various research as a City with the lowest unemployment rate, an affordable housing market, the lowest average rent in the US, highest growth in per Capita Income and the most resilient city to the recession. Recently, Fortune Magazine named Oklahoma City the number one city to launch a Small Business. I’m sure that my readers will agree that Maps 1 and 2 have had the greatest impact on all of this great success the city has experienced.
Of course, Bricktown, the Canal, The Oklahoma River, the Convention Center, new schools, parks, the tourist infrastructure and the transformation that Oklahoma City has undergone in the past 30 years owe their existence to positive and visionary Mayors Norrick, Humphreys and Cornett, and to administrators that have rendered dedication and their talents for this city. Credit has to be given also to the supportive citizens of Oklahoma City who, out of love for their city, have said yes to these positive projects.
I am certain that Oklahoma City residents will support MAPS 3 with a MASSIVE YES APPROVAL! in the ballots because the outcome of these projects is positive and profitable for the city, as when new hotels, tourism, investments and business come to town, more jobs will be created and everybody will profit from that.
My congratulations go to the mentioned mayors, city administrators, David López and the Honorable Greater Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce for the effort they have put in making MAPS 3 a reality.
