Mercado Mayapan will host its annual Day of the Dead celebration of the state of Morelos . We will have traditional musical group “Yankuik Kuikamatilistli, Danza Chinelos “La Comparza de Zapata”, altars, artisan goods for sale and festival food unique to this region for all to enjoy. This celebration is a perfect example of how the Mexican culture is a mix of both native (Mayan) and Spanish (Catholic) ritual. In an effort to preserve Mexican identity and customs, Mercado Mayapan hosts a well researched and planned event that varies regionally every month. Mercado Mayapan gives the public a taste of various regions such as Puebla, Oaxaca, Yucatan, etc. The purpose behind our events is to create an authentic space where one can honor and celebrate our Mexican traditions/culture and share them with the City of El Paso.
Celebration will take place at Mercado Mayapan festival market place, located at 2101 Myrtle, one block behind the current main offices.
Regular hours are Monday-Friday 8am-7pm Saturday 7am-7pm
Sunday 7am-9pm
Mercado includes bakery, tortilla shop, meat shop, fruits & vegetables, spices, mole, artisan goods, grocery items, traditional food and more.
