Standing outside the Oakland Coliseum, a father watched as his two little boys ripped open the Feed The Children boxes at his feet, revealing much-needed food and essentials. Hunger brought this struggling family to a recent stop on Feed The Children’s Americans Feeding Americans Caravan to reach hurting Oakland and San Francisco residents.
“I took it for granted that I was always going to work,” the boy’s father said. But his company was hit hard by the recession, downsizing from 370 employees to 40. And after being out of work for eight months, he had to reach out for help. Thanks to the kind gifts from friends like you, his family received the nutritious food and help they needed … and so did 4,000 other families who reaped the bounty of Feed The Children’s TEN fully-loaded trucks.
Eric Chavez, designated hitter for the Oakland A’s and the A’s owner Lee Wolff sponsored two of the ten trucks as a way of giving back to their community and nation. As Chavez, father of three said, “… the need for help and the people that need help has grown so much. With children being near to our heart, providing for people who need the food was pretty much a no-brainer.”
On behalf of the many Bay Area children and families who stood in line to receive desperately-needed food, thank you for your partnership. Your ongoing support is critical in helping the Caravan reach our nations hungry boys and girls in the days ahead.
