40 million Americans have no
healthcare coverage, 600.000 in
Oklahoma alone. These facts have
placed a shadow of shame over the richest
country in the world and the one
that claims to be the greatest one. This
shameful neglect of the citizens should
be embarrassing, considering that the
poorest countries in the continent, considered
as belonging to the third world
in the continent like Cuba, Nicaragua,
Bolivia, El Salvador, etc, offer Universal
Healthcare to their citizens.
In every campaign politicians like
Hillary and Bill Clinton, among others,
have promised to provide healthcare;
this, perhaps, with good intentions
or, maybe, with full knowledge that it
would not be possible to provide this basic
right to every citizen.
But who is responsible for the denial
of healthcare to the citizens, may we
ask? The answer is, certainly, complex.
Some may blame doctors and hospitals,
whom they may call greedy for making
healthcare unaffordable; doctors may
blame patients for being greedy for making
frivolous law suits that raise their
insurance coverage.
They may put the blame on insurance
companies and their lobbyists. Perhaps,
the blame may rest on all of the mentioned
with the companies and lobbyists
carrying the main responsibility.
May I emphasize that the blame,
mostly, rests on the constituents for being
too conformist and not demanding
from politicians legislation that will
make “Universal Healthcare” a reality.
Politicians and the system have
brainwashed people to be content with
having “nothing” and have kept them
content defending the system.
A new president is now in the White
House and a Democratic majority in
the U.S. Congress and Republican in
Oklahoma.
It is imperative that Oklahomans and
all Americans, in general, include in
their New Year’s resolutions the desire
to stop being so conformists and assume
a confrontational and demanding
attitude in order to obtain healthcare
and other basic rights, like free tuition
college education and the right to own a
home, as well.
So, remember, dear reader, that old
song that Elvis Presley used to sing. “It´s
now or never.” Every American must
have access to hospitalization, medicines,
and doctors paid with the funds from
taxes every citizen pays, as it occurs in
countries that don’t call themselves the
greatest nor the best! Call it socialism or
communism or whatever you want, but
give healthcare to every citizen!
