(OKLAHOMA CITY) – Don’t Miss the Main Event! Join heavyweights of business and legends of boxing, special Celebrity Guest Host, Sugar Ray Leonard, and Sean O’Grady, Event Emcee, for a black tie night of Dinner, Cocktails, Stogies, Boxing, Auctions and Entertainment. OKC Charity Fight Night will be held at the Coca-Cola Bricktown Events Center in Oklahoma City on Thursday, January 22, 2009. All proceeds from OKC Charity Fight Night benefit the Oklahoma City Police Athletic League, or PAL, for short.
PAL is dedicated to reducing crime by providing safe, healthy alternatives for children from high risk neighborhoods and is available to all children who wish to participate. The Oklahoma City Police Athletic League believes children can stay away from negative lifestyle choices, such as gangs and drugs, when offered positive, healthy alternatives. PAL offers several athletic and educational programs for thousands of Oklahoma City children each year.
“The OKC Charity Fight Night committee wanted to create a premier event that would also give back to our community and PAL is the perfect fit,” said Dick Horton, OKC Charity Fight Night event chairman. “The boxing ring offers the perfect analogy to inspire these children. When life knocks you down, you get right back up and fight your way back,” said Horton.
OKC Charity Fight Night is proud to announce Sugar Ray Leonard as this coming year’s Celebrity Host. Sugar Ray Leonard is a profound boxer of the 20th century, whose very name epitomizes boxing and conjures the image of a champion. Leonard started boxing at the age of 14. In 1976, he won a gold medal in boxing at the Olympic games and by age 20, had won his first professional fight. Leonard is the first boxer to win world titles in five different weight classes, a record that still stands today.
“It is such an honor and privilege for OKC Charity Fight Night to have Sugar Ray as our Celebrity Guest Host this coming year”, says Horton. “When told of our association with PAL, Mr. Leonard quickly signed on to join this great event as he has a personal passion for helping all children succeed in life, despite the odds.”
