Public libraries in McClain County including Blanchard, Newcastle and Purcell continue their summer time Reading Program, “Catch the Reading Bug!,” for children ages 5 to 12 with more special events this month.
Blanchard Public Library, 300 N. Main, continues their children’s program with Antonette and Cicada presented by Rhythmically Speaking Tuesday, June 17, at 10:30 a.m. The acting troupe will perform this musical play with a modern twist on an Aesop Fable.
Tuesday, June 24, at 10:30 a.m. children will be moving to the beat of Sugar Free Allstars’ summer program, Bug-aloo and Boogie. The program is full of zany children’s lyrics set to zippy music.
Purcell Public Library, 919 N. Ninth, hosts the Sugar Free Allstars and their Bug-aloo and Boogie show Tuesday, June 17, at 10:30 a.m. The following Tuesday, June 24, at 10:30 a.m. magician Steve Crawford shares The Magic of Bugs with his young fans. Crawford uses comedy and prestidigitation to take the children into the mysterious world of bugs.
Newcastle Public Library, 705 NW 10th, offers the musical play Antonette and Cicada performed by Rhythmically Speaking Wednesday, June 18, at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 25, at 2 p.m. The Sugar Free Allstars take the stage with Bug-aloo and Boogie.
Saturday, June 21, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. is also Library day at the Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History at the University of Oklahoma. Get free admission with a Pioneer Library System library card.
The Children’s Summer Reading Program is part of a state-wide reading initiative developed by the Oklahoma Department of Libraries and offered with the support of Sonic, Ind., America’s Drive In.
