July 27, 2010- El Paso, Texas- Western Technical College (WTC) is proud to announce that they have just earned their Master Certification for the Diesel Technology Program from the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF) in all areas of excellence including: Diesel Engines, Suspension and Steering, Brakes, Electrical/Electronic Systems, Preventative Maintenance Inspection, Drive Train, Heating Ventilation, & Air Conditioning, and Hydraulics. WTC has achieved the highest rank of certification exceeding and surpassing the minimum requirements to become certified in all eight areas instead of the minimum five.
Mr. Jack Werner, newly appointed Director of the Diesel Program at WTC says, “To me, this certification is simply one step in the progression of the diesel technician career training offered at WTC.”
In a letter from the NATEF President, William A. Kersten, to WTC President, Allan Sharpe, he writes, “Although many educational institutions strive for it, only a small percentage achieves this certification. Both the educational and automotive communities should be proud of your commitment to quality…”
According to the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Statistics, the :median hourly wages of bus & truck mechanics & diesel engine specialists, is $18.94.
