“Considering Democracy”

ImagenA Documentary Screening in OKC                 at theFirst Unitarian Church, 600 NW 13th Street              Thursday evening, May 226:30 p.m. – Open Seating in Daniel Hall7:00 p.m. – DOCUMENTARY SCREENING8:00 p.m. – Dialogue with Film-Maker Keya Lea HoriuchiFilm-Maker Keya Lea Horiuchi writes: Have you ever wondered what the rest of the world thinks of the United States?”Considering Democracy: 8 Things to Ask Your Representative” is a documentary looking at the United States from the perspective of people living elsewhere and compares it to other first world, industrialized democracies.  It begins the process of questioning to get answers and find solutions!This one-hour-length documentary weaves beauty from around the world, highlighting people and their views, with information and empowerment.  The goal of the documentary is to increase political participation and dialogue within the United States. I will be in Oklahoma City to lead the dialogue after the film is shown. Extensive research was carried out to see if what people were saying was true.  I learned some very interesting things and consider issues in the following eight categories:   Work and Leisure, Healthcare, Media, Foreign Policy, Foreign Aid, Campaign Finance, Lobbying and the Revolving Door. As an American, I want to see open and respectful dialog between people and groups.  I believe in the perseverance of humanity and respect the beauty in democracy.  In fact, people who are empowered live more fulfilling lives.  As more people begin open dialog, I believe this will bring strength and courage to American democracy.While I am just one person, if we work together, our power, reach and strength increases.  Together we can get many things accomplished. Thank you, Keya Lea Horiuchi, www.consideringdemocracy.comThis is a special event of the First Unitarian Church       Public Affairs Forum, cosponsored by The Peace House and Peace Education Institute.
