EL PASO, Texas – The UTEP rifle team fell to TCU for the second time in as many weeks, 4663-4599, at the UTEP Rifle Range on Saturday.
Alix Moncada led the way for UTEP, firing a match-high 595, in air gun, one point shy of her career-best. Andrea Palafox also put in a stellar performance, shooting 592. Josie Burzynski and Morgan Glenn rounded out UTEP’s team score with final tallies of 568 and 567, respectively, for a 2322 team total.
TCU dominated the air rifle portion of the match as all four shooters posted marks of 580 or better to combine for a 2348 aggregate score. Sarah Scherer was the Horned Frogs’ top gun, registering a 593, two points off Moncada.
The Frogs continued their stride, shooting 2315 to the Miners’ 2277 in smallbore.
Moncada paced the Miners in in the three-position gun with a team-high 575 and was followed by Glenn (572), Palafox (570) and Burzynski (560).
The Miners will play their final match on next Saturday, Feb. 13 at the UTEP Rifle Range. They play host to Nevada in an NCAA Qualifying match.
