UTEP Tennis Set For Home Opener On Thursday

ImagenEL PASO, TEXAS- The UTEP tennis team is poised to play host to Texas A&M Corpus-Christi at the El Paso Tennis Club at 1 p.m. MT on Thursday. The facility is located off of Robinson Street, and admission is free.

The match will be the first of 13 straight in the Sun City for the Miners (0-3), with the stretch culminating against New Mexico on March 12. Four of those contests are on tap for this weekend, with the Islanders (0-1) up first.

“We have a lot of tennis to play this weekend and will need to be focused on each individual match to be successful,” UTEP head coach Jamie Campbell said. “The players are eager to rebound and prove themselves.”

UTEP is slated for a double-header on Saturday. The Miners will lock up with Illinois State at 9 a.m. MT before challenging Sam Houston State at 2 p.m. MT. The busy weekend will wrap up when UTEP plays host to Lamar at 9 a.m. MT.

While the Orange and Blue have had some challenging moments early on in the 2010 dual-match play, they can take solace in the fact that they will be back home at the friendly confines of the El Paso Tennis Club for the next month and a half.

UTEP was simply dominant at the venue a year ago. The Miners claimed their first seven matches in the Sun City, setting a school record for longest won streak in the process, and ultimately boasted a ledger of 9-1

It established the best home record in the program’s history. UTEP won eight of the 10 matches by scores of either 6-1 or 7-0. Overall it enjoyed a dominating cumulative advantage of 58-12.
