Colombian Night 2010: Amazing Faces, Amazing Places
Norman, OK – January 26, 2010. The University of Oklahoma Colombian Students Association (COLSA) was established at OU in 2001. Since that time, COLSA has been an active group and has held several functions throughout the years. However, its highlight has always been “Colombian Night”, a cultural event where students showcase the richness and beautiful culture of Colombia through music, dance performances, Colombian cuisine and a huge after-party. Currently, COLSA has close to 120 members, 25% of whom are non-Colombians but friends of Colombians who wish to be a part of the passion that ignites one of the most active international associations at the University of Oklahoma.
Colombian Night 2010 will be held on Saturday, February 27th beginning at 5:30 PM with a typical Colombian dinner served in the University of Oklahoma’s Memorial Union Food Court, 900 Asp Ave. Music will be provided by Colombian pianist, Jose Luis Tono, who will perform Colombian songs from different regions of the country.
Following the dinner, the highlight of the evening, the cultural show, will begin at 8:00 PM. This year for the first time, it will be held in Sharp Hall in Catlett Music Center, 500 W. Boyd, to accommodate the large audience which has increased over the years.
Previous Colombian Nights have featured different aspects of the culture and natural resources. On February 27th, COLSA will present something new and never seen before! Colombia’s five main geographical regions will be the focus with traditional and folkloric dances from the Pacific Coast, Caribbean Coast, the Andes, the Plains of Orinoco and the Amazon. The band Tekumbe will have a special performance.
The evening will end with the popular after-party. Beginning at 10:30 PM, a “Colombian Style” party will be held at the Norman’s Club 101 (1051 12th Avenue Northeast Norman, OK 73071) featuring a tropical band from Houston, TX and some of the best Latin DJ’s in Oklahoma.
