The Community Service Program of the El Paso County Juvenile Justice Center is proud to announce their participation in their Fourth Annual Global Youth Service Day. Every year Youth Service America (YSA) sponsors millions of youth around the world to design projects in the areas of elderly assistance, nutrition, and the environment. Youth from the Juvenile Justice Center and Big Brother Big Sisters of America will join millions of youth in more than 100 countries by participating in Global Youth Service Day on April 24, which is the largest community service event in the world.
On Saturday, April 24, from 8 to 2 p.m., 40 local teens will culminate four months of hard work involving the exterior refurbishment at the Friendly Senior Citizens Center. Plans include painting the facility, planting trees and shrubs, general landscaping, rock wall repair, and graffiti removal throughout the neighborhoods. As a result, the duration of this project has acquired a total of 115 hours of service by local teens.
A dedication and ceremonial tree planting will landmark this special achievement involving local leaders such as Judge Yahara Lisa Gutierrez, 65th Judicial District Court, Commissioner Veronica Escobar, Precinct 2, and City Representative Susie Byrd, District 2.
