EL PASO – UTEP thrower Dimitrios Fylladitakis has been named the Conference USA Male Track and Field Athlete of the Week, while Blessing Okagbare received C-USA Co-Female Athlete of the Week accolades along SMU’s Simone du Toit as announced by the league office Tuesday.
Fylladitakis returned to the outdoor scenery after placing fifth nationally in the hammer throw a year ago. The junior’s first weekend of competition put him back in the national spotlight following national- and personal-best performance of 68.82-meters (223-09) in the men’s hammer throw to win the UTEP Springtime Invitational. This is Fylladitakis’ second career weekly honor and first in 2010.
Okagbare kicked off the outdoor season with the nation’s top time in the 200m and two first-place honors at the UTEP Springtime Invitational. The senior sprinter clocked in a time of 23.30 in the 200 meters before serving as the anchor in the Miners’ 14th-ranked 4x100m relay squad that finished first in 45.20. This is Okagbare’s fifth career weekly honor and first in 2010.
