OKLAHOMA CITY, April 13, 2023 – The Santa Fe Family Life Center (“SFFLC”) is hosting its inaugural Adaptive Sports Expo, on Thursday, May 11, from 5 to 8pm. This family-friendly event is open to the general public at no cost. The highlights of the evening include Adaptive Pickleball and Wheelchair Basketball games, a halftime Wheelchair Dance show, Pickleball games for attendees to join, a Kids Play Zone, ‘Meet the Athletes’ autograph sessions, and a Health and Wellness Fair with local vendors.
“The purpose of the Adaptive Sports Expo is to create awareness of our mission and the vast need for expanded adaptive sports and fitness programs in Central Oklahoma,” said Matt Bond, Executive Director of SFFLC. “We want to create opportunities through sports and fitness for engagement between individuals with physical disabilities and those without.”
The mission of SFFLC is to improve the health of Oklahomans by providing sports and fitness programs for all abilities. To accomplish this mission, the local non-profit offers various sports, fitness, and wellness programs to all members of the community, including individuals with disabilities and under-resourced youth. The fully accessible facility offers a wide variety of programs including everything from wheelchair football to sitting yoga and even adaptive scuba. These programs not only improve the health and wellness of individuals living with disabilities but also creates an inclusive community that is beneficial to Oklahomans of all abilities who are involved.
All funds raised from the Adaptive Sports Expo will be used to grow programs for an additional 250 under-resourced youth and 50 adaptive athletes. Community partners who have already contributed to this campaign through the Adaptive Sports Expo include the Jasco Giving Hope Foundation, Oklahoma Joint Reconstruction Institute, A to Z Inspections, and PER4MAX.
